Big yards, kids everywhere, and big dogs to match. In Arcadia your dog has to be safe around all of it.
Arcadia is old citrus land at the foot of Camelback Mountain. The lots are big, the lawns are green from flood irrigation, and the trees are tall. Kids ride bikes in the street and play in the yard. Families here tend to have big dogs. Shepherds, Aussies, doodles, labs. And everyone walks them on the canal path.
A big yard does not train a dog. A young Aussie or a Shepherd with nothing to do will find something to do, and in a house full of kids and guests that turns into a problem fast. I come to your house and we train right there. In the yard, at the dinner table, at the front door, and on the canal. And I train you too, because you are the one holding the leash after I leave.
What I see on Arcadia homes
A family called me about a nine-month-old Australian Shepherd. He was already 70 pounds. He chewed up the whole house. And when the kids ran, he grabbed them by the shirt and pulled them to the ground. That is a herding dog with nothing to herd. It looks like play until a kid hits the ground. I fixed both. The chewing stopped, and the kids can run in the yard again.
Another family had a five-year-old German Shepherd who guarded her food. Not a growl. She would bite at people who came near her bowl. In a house with kids and guests, that is not something you can wait out. I fixed that too, at home, where the bowl is. People can walk past her while she eats now.
Big dogs, big yards, and kids. That is most of what I see in Arcadia.

Once your dog is doing well at home, we take the training out into the real world. We walk the canal path when it is busy with bikes and dogs. We sit on the patio at OHSO. We walk past Hopi Elementary at pickup time, when the sidewalk is full of kids. If your dog can stay calm there, he can stay calm in your yard.

Every program is custom, and they run from about five weeks for house and door manners up to nine weeks for a dog you can take anywhere. Puppy training, obedience, behavior work, and PTSD service dog training all included.
