Scared of every sound, jumping on guests, and not listening at all. In Fountain Hills, a lot of rescues start out that way.
Fountain Hills is a small town on the far side of the McDowell Mountains. It is hilly, it is quiet, and the town keeps its skies dark on purpose. A lot of people here are retired or only here for the winter. A lot of them adopt rescue dogs. And a lot of those dogs come home scared of things they have never seen. Garage doors. Thunder. Golf carts. Coyotes howling at night.
A scared dog does not listen. He is too busy watching for the next thing to be afraid of. That is why I train at your house, in the rooms and the yard where the fear shows up, instead of at a facility he has never seen. I come to you and we start right there. And I train you too, because you are the one he has to listen to after I leave.
What I see on Fountain Hills homes
A woman called me about her rescued Aussiedoodle. He did not listen to her at all. Any sound made him cower. He was too scared to go on walks, so walks were not happening. And he was chewing up every pillow in the house. That is a lot for one dog. I fixed all of it. He listens now, he walks, and the pillows are safe.
Another family had a rescued Golden Retriever. When you walked in the door, he jumped on you, wrapped his front legs around you, and would not let go. He was afraid of everything, and he did not listen. After we worked together, the jumping stopped. Now he sits and waits when you come in, and he is so happy to see you.
Both of those dogs were rescues. Both were scared, and neither one listened. That is most of what I see in Fountain Hills. A dog does not have to stay that way.

Once your dog is doing well at home, we take the training out into the real world. We walk around Fountain Park when the fountain goes off at the top of the hour and the crowd shows up. We walk the Avenue of the Fountains on a Thursday when the market is set up. We walk past the fence at the Desert Vista dog park. And we take the trail from the Adero Canyon trailhead, where dogs are allowed on a leash.
